BALI CHILDREN'S PROJECT

Most members are familiar with the company's commitment to supporting Children's Charities, in particular Christel House in Bangalore, India. What many of you may not know, is that we also sponsor Children's Charities in Bali, one of which is the Bali Children's Project.

The Bali Children's Project was founded on the belief that education provides a way to move beyond poverty toward healthy productive lives. For almost twenty years it has been quietly changing young lives, particularly in remote village communities...

The Children's Project grew from a heartfelt desire to give something tangible back to the people of Bali in return for the joy their warm welcome and rich culture have given to BCP founders, Joyce Scott and John Cooke. Created originally with the simple aim of keeping girls in school when financial hardship threatened to end their education, BCP has gradually grown in stature.

Today, among its many programs, the Bali Children's Project:

  • Provides financial sponsorships for over 200 children, enabling them to stay in school, with the opportunity to continue on to High School, and even university.
  • Has created a dozen village pre-schools and kindergartens (with plans for more).
  • Supports Balinese traditional music and dance, including the creation of two children's gamelan orchestras.
  • Runs a flourishing volunteer program that includes English language classes, computer aptitude and teacher training.
  • Administers a micro-investment scheme for impoverished families.
  • Implements health and dental initiatives, including Sex Education & HIV/AIDS awareness.
  • Promotes inclusion of persons with disabilities in BCP programs (in a society in which the disabled receive little recognition).
Royal Resorts has been quietly supporting the Bali Children's Project for several years now, providing regular donations to sponsor children and for classroom improvements. More recently, the relationship has been further cemented - Balinese dance tutor Putu and her students were invited to perform at the Royal Bali Beach Club in Jimbaran, where they will be accompanied by one of the Children's Gamelan orchestras.

The Bali's Children Project is a California-registered non-profit organization and depends wholly on charitable donations - we at Royal have seen firsthand just how valuable these donations can be in changing lives. Please visit the BCP's website at www.balichildrensproject.org for further information.
